How well do you know the Bible? Pretty well? Better than the average Joe? Hardly at all? The fact is most Christians know they're supposed to read and study it, but most feel inadequate or unqualified to do so. And the fact is, God never meant His Word to be a Big Mystery that only the higher echelon of scholars could understand. It is His Story, His Word, His love letter to us, and He wants to speak to His people through it.
Precept Ministries was founded 40 years ago to encourage and equip people of all walks of life to study the Bible for themselves, using the Inductive method of study…a method which allows Scripture to speak for itself, without being fettered by others' opinions and commentaries. Learning how to study the Bible this way is freeing, encouraging, enlightening and empowering, because "just as no one can eat and digest your food for you, so no one else can feed on God's Word for you." Jesus said, "Man does not live by bread alone, but by EVERY WORD that proceeds from the mouth of God." (Matt. 4:4) His Word is our spiritual food, and how many of us starve ourselves by only eating one or two meals a week? If that is how we treated our physical bodies, we wouldn't last long, and we certainly wouldn't be healthy…so why do we think we can be spiritually strong without being in the Word every day?
With that as the heart of the ministry, Precept offers Training Workshops where people can learn how to study the Bible for themselves, and I am thrilled to announce one is coming to Tehachapi this October 8-9th. This is the first training event Precept has offered in the greater L.A. area for several years, and I cannot speak more emphatically about what a fantastic opportunity this is. The classes offered and the teachers are absolutely top notch, and you will come away with a heart renewed and refreshed for the Word of God. The workshops are dynamic and very hands on-you won't just be sitting in a classroom, filling in blanks and listening to a lecture all day, you'll actually get to do what you're being taught.
The workshop is flexible-you can choose to come for one day only or for both days, and you can choose which class interests you the most. The classes run from 9am to 5pm each day. How to Study the Old Testament (History and Prophecy) and Word Studies will be offered on Friday October 8th; How to Study the New Testament Epistles, the Basics of Precept Upon Precept and Precept Leader Training will be offered on Saturday October 9th.
